A Moonbow on a Stormy Night: An Invitation to Dream for Hope

Updated: Nov 22

A Moonbow around a bright full moon on a dark night sky

As the holiday season nears, a familiar cold settles in, but this year's winter feels heavier, burdened by chaos both natural and human-made. Bomb cyclones batter coastlines, and atmospheric rivers unleash torrents, leaving flooding and devastation in their wake. It feels surreal, the juxtaposition of holiday cheer against the backdrop of a world grappling with geopolitical conflicts and threats of nuclear war that linger ominously on the horizon.

The realities of a housing crisis stretch far and wide, where families fall homeless while others grapple with the dual crises of addiction and despair. Humanitarian catastrophes unfold in war zones, reminding us that beneath the seasonal festivities, countless lives are disrupted by loss and suffering. This mental burden can be overwhelming, and yet, amidst it all, nature reminds us of its beauty and resilience.

With each news headline, the weight of our collective anxiety grows.

On the last supermoon of 2024, in mid-November, I witnessed an awe-inspiring phenomenon—a moonbow gracing the night sky, forming an arc of colours around the bright full moon. Rare and ethereal, its breathtaking beauty stopped me in my rumination, provoking reflection and wonder amidst the tumult.

A moonbow is an extraordinarily rare sight that requires a full moon on a stormy night. It occurs when precipitation refracts the bright moonlight, creating a spectrum of colours. However, excessive rain and clouds can completely obscure the moon, making moonbows elusive and magical when they do appear. Those radiant beams offer a metaphor for hope, a reminder that even in chaos and darkness, light and beauty can emerge unexpectedly.

An invitation to reimagine the collective futures that await us

As we stand at the precipice of a new year, a call to action echoed through the air— an invitation to reimagine the collective futures that await us. In the surge of chaos and turmoil that has ravaged our path, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment, ripe with potential. This is our chance to ignite a spark of hope and resilience that could light the way for all of us. Through the darkness and despair, we could seize the opportunity to cultivate a new way forward.

Imagine a world where we come together, pooling our ideas and experiences, transforming challenges into stepping stones toward a brighter tomorrow. Let’s embrace this moment, inspiring one another to rise above adversity and venture boldly into the new possibilities that beckon us. Together, we can create not just a future but a vibrant tapestry of hope, courage, and shared dreams.

The new year beckons like a blank canvas, inviting us to envision a better future. As we gather with family and friends this season, may our conversations embrace not only gratitude but also a shared longing for transformation. Let us acknowledge our trials while also cultivating a mindset that seeks resolutions.

In light of this, I'm extending an invitation to you to join me for a virtual Guided Dreaming class dedicated to stress reduction and problem-solving, held every Sunday at 10 AM Pacific Time, starting on December 1. We will come together to dream, release tension and stress, and envision pathways to overcome both individual and collective challenges. Together, we will share our dreams to heal and encourage.

We need connection and support now more than ever, and through dreaming together and sharing dreams, we can uplift one another and harness the magic of the moonbow—transforming fear into courage, grief into hope, and isolation into belonging. Together, we can navigate the storm, forging a brighter future, one dream at a time. Together, we can foster resilience, ignite compassion, and inspire positive change.
